The beanie has pushed itself from the fringes of alternative fashion into a position of significance somewhere between a t-shirt and a tattoo. A tattoo is permanent, a t-shirt you wear once, maybe twice before you change it for another; but a good beanie has a way of staying on your head for much longer and becomes something of a comfort blanket.
